New €59 Million Five-Star Luxury Hotel Moves Forward in Marbella

Marbella’s pipeline of luxury hospitality investment continues to expand, with plans for a new €59.3 million five-star grand-luxury hotel progressing near La Cañada.

The proposed hotel would provide 220 rooms together with a spa, gym, restaurants, landscaped gardens, swimming pools and underground parking on a large site at El Chorraero–La Cañada, beside the Ojén road.

The project is being promoted by Marbella Leisureland Investments, a company linked to the business group behind the revival of Marbella’s former Don Miguel hotel, which reopened in 2022 as Club Med Magna Marbella.

There is now a useful new milestone.

Marbella Town Hall published the project’s planning file on 28 September 2026, updating the public documentation again on 29 September. The municipal portal describes the scheme as an “extraordinary development” for the implementation of a five-star grand-luxury hotel and confirms its admission for processing. For Marbella, it represents another substantial private investment proposal within a luxury hospitality sector that is attracting considerable international capital.

€59.3 million investment and 220 rooms

The scale of the proposed project is significant.

According to the planning information and reporting on the scheme, the hotel would occupy part of a 133,920 m² plot, although the area directly affected by the extraordinary development represents only around 7.91% of the overall site.

The proposed hotel building itself would provide approximately 15,000 m² of floor space.

Plans include:

220 hotel rooms, underground parking, restaurant and bar facilities, spa, gym, landscaped gardens, two swimming pools.

The anticipated investment is approximately €59.3 million.

That places the scheme firmly within Marbella’s continuing expansion at the upper end of the hospitality market.

The group behind the revival of the Don Miguel

There is an interesting Marbella connection behind the project.

Marbella Leisureland Investments is associated with the business interests that previously invested approximately €70 million in reviving the former Don Miguel hotel.

The Don Miguel had been one of Marbella’s best-known resorts before closing in 2004.

The property was acquired in 2013 and eventually reopened in 2022 following a partnership with Club Med, becoming Club Med Magna Marbella.

The proposed new hotel would be located relatively close to that existing resort.

The fact that the same business group is considering another substantial hospitality investment in the area is notable, although the new project remains separate and still subject to planning procedures.

Why the location is interesting

El Chorraero–La Cañada sits immediately behind Marbella’s established urban area, close to the road towards Ojén.

It is therefore different from Marbella’s traditional beachfront hotel locations.

Instead, the proposed hotel would occupy an elevated inland position while remaining close to Marbella town, La Cañada and the surrounding residential areas.

That reflects a broader trend in Marbella.

Luxury hospitality is no longer confined to the Golden Mile and beachfront.

New investment is increasingly spreading across the wider municipality — from eastern Marbella and Río Real to inland locations and areas close to the foothills.

For the property market, that diversification is interesting because hospitality investment can bring restaurants, wellness facilities, landscaping and employment into locations that have traditionally been predominantly residential.

Environmental improvements form part of the proposal

The project’s rural setting means environmental considerations form an important part of the planning process.

The proposal includes reforestation using native species together with improvements around the Arroyo de las Represas watercourse.

Plans also envisage the restoration of traditional cultivation areas and the creation of paths intended for pedestrians and cyclists.

Municipal technical assessments cited in reporting indicate that the hotel site does not affect land subject to specific environmental protection.

The proposal nevertheless has to pass through the appropriate consultation and administrative procedures.

Marbella’s luxury hotel pipeline continues to deepen

The significance becomes clearer when viewed alongside other recent Marbella hospitality investments.

The city currently has a remarkable pipeline of luxury projects spanning hotels, branded residences, wellness resorts and golf destinations.

Recent announcements include the proposed Waldorf Astoria Marbella project, the Oakmond wellness and hospitality development and the continuing Four Seasons Marbella plans.

Marbella Town Hall said this week that around €200 million of public investment is being directed into approximately 90 major municipal projects, while also highlighting the continuing pipeline of private hotel investment.

The municipality also reported strong tourism employment during 2026.

According to figures presented by the Town Hall, Marbella hotels employed 6,760 people in June 2026, compared with 3,662 in June 2025, while international travellers increased by 8.1% between January and July and international overnight stays rose by 9.2%. www.marbella.es

Those figures help explain why international and domestic investors continue to look at Marbella’s hospitality market.

What does another luxury hotel mean for property buyers?

For somebody buying a home in Marbella, another hotel proposal should be viewed as part of a broader picture rather than a reason to purchase on its own.

High-quality hospitality investment can strengthen a destination’s amenity offering.

Luxury hotels typically introduce restaurants, spas, landscaped environments, employment and services while contributing to Marbella’s international profile.

Marbella continues to attract long-term investment

The more interesting takeaway is the cumulative picture.

A €59.3 million proposed hotel would not transform Marbella by itself.

But it joins a growing pipeline of significant investments across hospitality, residential development, infrastructure and public space.

The latest municipal planning publication demonstrates that this particular project is now progressing through a formal and transparent administrative process.

If ultimately approved and delivered, it would add another 220 rooms at the five-star grand-luxury level to Marbella’s hospitality offering.

For a city already recognised internationally for luxury tourism and residential property, that continued willingness to commit substantial capital is a positive indicator of investor confidence.
